A downloadable game for Windows

This is a short 3D puzzle game made for the Cambridge Game Jam 2024, where the theme was "Reflection". 

You're a king in Medieval England, with a deep fear of losing your riches. But things aren't quite as they seem; there's oddities all around the place, ones you can only spot through your mirrors...

The objective of the game is to solve all the puzzles and exit the house without being caught by the enemy. The collectable objects help you solve the puzzles and the mirrors help you find the collectables.
The mirror is also the only way you can spot the enemy, but if you break the mirror the enemy cannot catch you in that area. However, this makes the enemy faster throughout the game. Will you create a safe haven or let the enemy trod along slowly?

PLOT OF THE GAME (IMPORTANT)

1st floor

You wake up in the bedroom. You go to the nearest room (with pillars).

- “Stranger, if you read this book your fate has made a bad joke on you. This mansion is a terrible, cursed place, and the only way to escape this inferno - solve all the riddles and stay alive. However, will you dare to look into the eyes of a Reflection?”

You find on the table a hammer. You pick it up and break the first mirror to avoid your fears catching up to you.

You go to the next nearest room - with a padlock and guillotine. There you find out that you need to open the padlock to escape the first floor. Then you go to the room furthest down the hall to find a key.

- “Look within, beyond, and most of all carefully, even if it’s your reflection”

Then, you see a drawer locked with a combination. You go to explore more rooms. You go to the safe and open it. You find a note that says what the code for the combination lock is.

- “Past is like a big rock inside a safe that is locked with a padlock, it’s heavy and hard to move.” 

You open the drawer with the combination lock and find a heavy weight. When you take it to the room with the big red button and drop it on there the access to the ground floor is opened.

Ground floor 

The room on the left on the ground floor has a poster that reads a clue to the levers in the other room in Morse code.

- “If you want to leave, position them properly, let me give you a clue: .-..-”

Then you go on to the levers that have to be positioned correctly and they open a chest with a key for the exit.

However, when you exit you find that what you had been trying to escape was losing your riches, and yet you're most fulfilled whilst away from it all in a small farm in the countryside. Finally at peace you reflect upon your life.


DEV NOTES:

Almost all of the code used in this game was made during the jam.
Almost all of the music and sound effects used in the game were made during the jam.
We have tried to make as much of the art assets as we can during the game jam, however, we have also utilised a few premade ones.

The design uniquely fits the theme; by revealing things in the world, that are otherwise hidden, through reflections.
We couldn't optimise the game a lot. We did our best given the time limitation. Thanks for playing!
